Russell Vance collection, 1861-1976.

Russell Vance Jr., formerly of the Edinboro History Department, was asked to write a history of Edinboro State College. This is a collection of some of the research materials he used for writing his book, A Portrait of Edinboro, From Private Academy to State College, 1856-1976. Published in 1977, this book is the standard history of the school.

In Shenango, classes were first offered in 1961 at the Hickory Township High School. In 1968, the Shenango Center was relocated to the junior high school at Farrell. For the first year there the Center shared occupancy of the building, but thereafter it was solely the property of the Shenango Center. Bill Utley was the first director of the Center. The folders have, as much as possible, remained labled as Russell Vance had them identified. Some of the folders are rich with Edinboro memorabilia.
